One of the amazing things that you can make with your Glowforge 3D Laser Printer is an Acrylic Night Light! Make your own with a tutorial plus a FREE Madame Leota SVG File that is perfect for fans of Disney’s Haunted Mansion Ride!
I am a huge Disney fan, and one of my favorite rides is the Haunted Mansion. My favorite part of the ride is Madame Leota, the floating “head” in the crystal ball. It is so spooky yet fun and I look forward to it every time I ride.
I have wanted to make an acrylic night light since I first bought my Glowforge, but could never decide on a design. After my most recent trip to Walt Disney World, I finally thought of an awesome idea – Madame Leota!
Have you heard of a Glowforge? I use my SVG files with it ALL of the time, and you can too! Check out my Glowforge Basics post and see what you need to get started and how you can save up to $500 on your very own 3D laser printer!
I designed a SVG file that has a little bit of a 3D effect when lit (I had no idea how difficult it would be to create a true 3D night light!) I love how it turned out!

How to Make a LED Night Light with a Glowforge
Open a new canvas and upload the SVG file to the app. The Madame Leota SVG is designed to be used with the Glowforge software.
The acrylic blank design is pre-sized to the night light base that is in my materials list above. If you order another night light base, please double check the length of the slot so that the acrylic will fit. Otherwise, select the whole design and resize to fit.
You will want to engrave on the BACK of your finished night light by mirroring your design. This is especially important if you decide to make a night light with text included in the design. For the Madame Leota design, this is not a concern since there is no text.
Place your acrylic sheet in the Glowforge and set your material to “Medium Clear Acrylic.” If you use Glowforge Proof Grade acrylic, the material should be set automatically.
Note: I used acrylic without paper or 3M backing. It takes a long time to peel all of the small pieces of paper off, and I did not have the patience for that. Ha!
Set the outside line of the design to “Cut” and the Madame Leota design is set to “Engrave.” Click the “Ready” button and wait for your Glowforge to prep the design. As designed, the file will take around 40 minutes to engrave and cut.
Once it is done, clean with a soft cloth, then turn it over and insert into the night light base!
During the day, you will have a cool display piece, but at night the real magic will happen! Press the power button to turn on the night light. It will rotate automatically through several colors, or you can set it to one color!
It is definitely my new favorite Halloween decoration, although I will probably use it year round!
