Jump on the trend of Hot Chocolate Bombs (they’re amazing!) and make your own DIY Hot Chocolate Bomb Charcuterie Tray for Christmas, Movie Night, or just for fun!
In my opinion, two of the greatest trends to come out of this year are hot chocolate bombs and fancy, unique charcuterie boards. Although charcuterie boards have been popping up the last year or so, this winter the Hot Cocoa Charcuterie Boards are the perfect treat for Christmas morning, movie night, or a fun little Christmas party for your kids!
I combined the two popular sweet ideas and made a Hot Chocolate Bomb Charcuterie Tray for my kids to celebrate a Christmas movie night here at home!
You’re going to want to make one of these hot cocoa toppings displays as soon as you see how EASY it is! I’m going to break it down my version for you, so you can get some great ideas and then design your own.
What Do You Need for a DIY Hot Chocolate Board?
Grab a tray, board, or cookie plate – use what you have! I have this little green tray that is perfect to hold all of the treats inside the edges.
Also pick up some small bowls to hold some toppings, fun hot chocolate mugs or cups, and winter patterned napkins!
Hot Chocolate Bombs- make your own from scratch or get your favorite store bought ones. There’s no wrong answer here. I’m a personal fan of the hot cocoa bombs at a local candy store. You can even start with a hot chocolate mix – I won’t judge!
I picked up Gingerbread:
Peppermint:
and Traditional Hot Chocolate flavored:
Have you ever seen how Hot Chocolate Bombs work? When they’re added to hot milk, they pop open and a pile of marshmallows fill your cup. It’s so cool! Stir it all up until the chocolate is melted and you are left with a decedent cup of hot chocolate!
Marshmallows – I love traditional mini marshmallows, but we also picked up a peppermint variety.
Homemade gingerbread marshmallows would also be an AMAZING addition.
Candy Canes – there’s nothing better than a candy cane to snack on at Christmastime, or using it to stir your hot cocoa!
Cookies – pick your favorites! Sugar cookies, gingerbread, shortbread, peanut butter cookies, and chocolate crinkles are some of our go-to holiday cookies.
Fun decorative elements – for this board I found fun themed marshmallows to put in the cocoa or on the edge of the mug!
I also found these cute hot cocoa stirrers – the kids loved the ones with the extra marshmallows!

Start by placing the small bowls on the tray to hold the chocolate chips and marshmallows – or you can use other small items like peppermint candy cane pieces, sprinkles, or small candies. Basically anything that can end up all over your board throw in a little bowl.
Next, place your hot chocolate bombs since they’ll take up the most space. These and the bowls are the “anchors” of the whole tray.
Fill in the other areas with cookies, candy canes, and cute marshmallows. Some other ideas that would work great are caramels and chocolate kisses! Top off with drink stirrers.
Lastly, fill in all of the dead space with marshmallows, candy, or other small edible items. You don’t want much of the tray to show!
On the side, place napkins, cups, and your favorite whipped cream! Everyone will love how fun it looks! Have some milk steaming for the hot chocolate bombs, and have everyone drop them in and then add their own toppings! We LOVE extra marshmallows here, so we always make sure to add plenty of them!
