Make this family fun Cricut craft – a Dinosaur Track Stencil! Use it to make chalk dinosaur footprints to entertain your kids or to decorate for a Dinosaur Party! These EASY Cricut Dinosaur Tracks will definitely be a repeat activity!
I have been spending half of my time lately trying to think of EASY crafts that will entertain my littlest kids. They are absolutely obsessed with Dino Dana (it’s on Amazon Prime) and dinosaurs in general. I made these easy chalk dinosaur track stencils with my Cricut Explore Air 2 and they loved them!
My youngest daughter just got the Dino Dana Field Guide (it was just released on Amazon!) and she loves looking through each of the pages and learning about the dinosaurs. Seriously, if your kid loves dinosaurs, it’s a must buy! She has been using the book to go out in the yard to do “dinosaur experiments” so I wanted to create a fun (but quick and easy) outdoor activity for her and our youngest son. This craft is great for preschoolers, but even my oldest two got involved – they wanted to make something fun for the joggers in our neighborhood to see!
Since my kids are huge dinosaur fans, I have several dinosaur posts. Check them all out, especially if you’re planning a Dinosaur party!

These dinosaur track stencils turned out to be the PERFECT craft for a kid activity. They only took a few minutes to design and cut, and I was able to use some craft supplies I already had on hand.

How to Make Dinosaur Track Stencils with your Cricut
This project uses a Dinosaur Track shape available in Cricut Design Space. There are also some other Dinosaur Fossil designs that would be great to use also!
Open a new project in Cricut Design Space. Search for the Dinosaur Track design or click the the following link to open my Dinosaur Track Design Space Canvas directly. Add the image to your canvas and hide the detailed layer (this design has two layers, which is perfect for making party decor but not for this project). Resize the less detailed bottom layer of the design to 11-11.5 inches (to fit a piece of 12×12″ material).
Click “Make It” to proceed to the cut settings. Move the design to the center of the mat, which makes it a little more stable. You can also set the number of stencils that you would like to cut.
Follow the on screen instructions and select your machine and material. I used Cricut Kraft Board which is a heavier version of cardstock. It would also work with chipboard, posterboard, or another heavyweight paper.
Put your paper onto the Standard Grip mat, applying even pressure with your hand to secure the paper to the mat. Press “Go” on your machine when you’re ready to cut!
If you’re using a heavy paper, the Cricut will automatically set to cut the design twice. That ensures a good cut – the dinosaur footprint will come right off the mat.
Now it’s time to send the kids outside! Use the stencils to draw Dinosaur Tracks all over your sidewalk with chalk! This is a perfect craft for kids of all ages – even my 2 year old got excited about it!
And even if they get bored with the stencils, they still can color with the sidewalk chalk to create their own designs! (Or scribbles hahaha!)
Make your own stencils and decorate the neighborhood!
Oh, this is the cutest idea for kids! And I’m sure neighbors and joggers will enjoy too, as you say. Thanks for sharing this fun idea!
