Valentine’s Day is such a great holiday to make DIY projects! Making your own Valentine’s Day gifts and Valentine’s Day cards are a great way to show someone how much you care. And when using your Martha Stewart Cricut Explore Air 2, you can make a stunning yet EASY project with a variety of materials and designs to choose from. I’m really excited to show y’all something today that is one of my FAVORITE kind of projects to make with my Martha Stewart Cricut – using Iron On on paper! That’s right, Iron On isn’t just for shirts! By using Iron On vinyl on paper, I was able to create an intricate design for my handmade Valentine’s Day card without all of the hassle of layering tiny pieces of paper.

 

 

I can’t begin to tell you how much I love having the Martha Stewart Cricut machine in my craft room! It can cut over 100 different materials, from cardstock, vinyl and iron-on to specialty materials like glitter paper, cork, and bonded fabric. In addition, the Cricut Explore Air 2 series machine cuts up to 2x faster than previous Explore models. Not only is it a powerful machine, it is gorgeous! It comes in a lustrous vanilla pearl finish with brushed gold accents and a set of coordinating tools. AND, there’s a coordinating Cricut EasyPress 2 Martha Stewart Edition in gold that I just love as well. Some of my favorite parties in the last year have been successful due in large part to using my Martha Stewart Cricut machine to create Pinterest-worthy details. Since last Spring, I’ve been sharing simple, yet stunning projects that you can make at home with your Cricut. Make a Handmade Valentine’s Day Card with your Martha Stewart Cricut Explore Air 2

 

 

What do you need to make your own Valentine’s Day card?

 

–Martha Stewart Cricut Explore Air 2

–Cardstock in Red and Pink

–Iron On Vinyl

–Cricut Scoring Stylus

–Martha Stewart Cricut EasyPress 2

-Adhesive specifically for use with paper

When you’re shopping at Michaels for Martha Stewart branded Cricut machines and materials, make sure you check out the selection of Martha Stewart Iron On Vinyl! The new Everyday Iron-On™ from Cricut outlasts 50+ washes* and is compatible with a huge breadth of base materials, including wood and even paper! There are a ton of great colors (and even patterned Iron On) that you’ll be able to use for all kinds of projects! I find myself grabbing the Martha Stewart Iron On when making a lot of my projects, because the solid colors are so modern and appealing.

 

Instruction for Making a Handmade Valentine’s Day Card with your Cricut

I’ve made this card design available for you to create in Cricut Design Space, so all you have to do to start is click on the link below to open the DIY Valentine’s Day card design in Design Space. There are a ton of great Martha Stewart exclusive images under “cartridges” that can be found by searching “Martha” – here are some of the results:

If you click “Customize,” you can change the size of the card, the colors of the images, or add text. I’ve designed the card to be 5×7″ when finished. Within Design Space, I have made the card stock liner of the card a gray color, so that it can be differentiated from the white design on the front of the card, which will be cut out of Iron On vinyl.

 

 

When you’re ready to cut out your card, click the green “Make It” button.

If you’re familiar with working with Iron On materials, you’ll know that your design has to be “mirrored” in order for the design to be properly aligned on your shirt. Since the white heart and “Be Mine” designs are to be cut out of Iron On, I selected that layer and clicked the “Mirror” slider. Also remember to place the iron on onto the mat SHINY side down.

 

 

As you are cutting your materials, be sure to select the appropriate material on the dial on top of the Cricut machine for each part of the card. For the paper, use “Cardstock” if you’re using Cricut-branded cardstock (depending on the brand you may have to select a lighter or heavier version), and for the Iron-on, move the dial to “Iron-on.” I love how easy the Cricut Explore Air 2 makes it to select your materials.

Once your materials have finished cutting, prepare to assemble your DIY Valentine’s Day Card. Adhere the white liner of the card to the inside of the card using the adhesive of your choice (I used a Xyron Creative Station and Permanent Adhesive).

 

 

Next, weed away the extra vinyl from your design. One of my favorite features of the Cricut Everyday Iron-On™ is that it weeds SO easily. Even with this smaller and intricate heart design, I was able to remove the excess in just a few minutes.

 

 

Using Cricut Iron On Vinyl on Paper with the EasyPress 2

Now starts the fun part – using the Iron On on paper! Preheat your Cricut EasyPress 2 Martha Stewart Edition to 250 degrees. The EasyPress 2 is the hottest new addition to my craft room. In addition to being a stylish vanilla and gold color that coordinates with my Martha Stewart Cricut, it is easy to use, lightweight and produces professional results in 60 seconds or less. It has an advanced heat plate design with a ceramic-coated surface that has precise control up to 400 degrees.

 

 

Once the machine is at the proper temperate, set the timer to 15 seconds. Using the EasyPress mat underneath, lightly press the “Be Mine” design on to the pink cardstock piece for 15 seconds on the front, and then flip the piece over and press for 15 seconds on the back. Align the heart design on the card and follow the same procedure – 15 seconds on the front and back.

 

 

Wait until the iron on has COOLED before removing the plastic carrier sheet. I find that it is much easier to pull away the carrier sheet from paper after the vinyl has cooled.

 

 

Once you have peeled away the plastic, you’re done! Fill out the card and send it to someone you love!
