Easy Valentine’s Day Cupcakes with Simple Fondant Tutorial

Making cute Valentine’s Day cupcakes can be easy! Today I’m sharing a simple fondant cupcake topper tutorial that you can use to make Valentine cupcakes that are perfect for class parties.

Nearly a decade ago when I started designing parties, I started a small fondant design business called Two Sugar Babies. I made fondant cupcake toppers and fondant cake decorations for years, sending them all over the world. Fondant work became a part of all of my parties, and a part of me. But I burned out. I spent countless hours designing, photographing, mailing orders, and answering emails. It took SO much time away from my family that after several years I decided to close up my Etsy shop and step away from it all. I had my third child and knew I needed to find my creative outlet again. That’s how I started the Pineapple Paper Co. blog. Oh, and then I had my fourth child. But through it all, my fondant work was never far away. I made birthday cakes, cupcakes, and small elements for my kids’ birthday parties, class parties, and holidays. And now I’m going to start sharing some easy fondant tutorials so that you can make your own fondant cupcake toppers and cake decorations at home!

Easy Valentine’s Day Cupcake Toppers Made with Fondant

 

 

What you need to make heart fondant cupcake toppers for Valentine’s Day:

You can get it all from Amazon at the links below:

-Fondant (I prefer Satin Ice brand, it’s what I’ve used for years)

-Red Gel Food Coloring and Pink Gel Food Coloring (Americolor gel coloring is what many professionals use)

-Corn Starch or Powdered Sugar for rolling (I prefer corn starch)

–Rolling pin

–Scalloped Edge Circle Cookie Cutter

–Heart Cookie Cutter

 

 

How to Make Heart Fondant Cupcake Toppers for Valentine’s Day

First, take a small amount of fondant and color using gel food coloring. Put a small amount of gel in the fondant and knead with your fingers, using the corn starch and powdered sugar in small amounts to keep it from being sticky.

 

 

Cover your working surface in a light coating of corn starch (as you would flour when rolling out cookies). Roll out the pink fondant so it is approximately 1/8″ thick.

 

Cut the scalloped circles from the pink fondant and set aside.

 

 

Roll out the red fondant in the same way.

 

 

Cut the hearts out of the red fondant.

 

 

Using a small paintbrush, place a tiny amount of water in the middle of the pink circles and place the red hearts on top.

 

 

That’s it! Place the fondant Valentine’s Day Heart Cupcake Toppers on a flat surface and let dry overnight.

 

Just before you serve the cupcakes, set the fondant cupcake toppers on top. The fondant will absorb the moisture from the cupcake icing and will soften if left on too long.

With just a few steps and a few minutes, you have cute heart Valentine’s Day Cupcake Toppers!
