Make a stencil with vinyl or freezer paper to paint your own coir doormat for a fun Halloween project. You can also use this Free Halloween SVG file to make Halloween signs, shirts, and other Halloween crafts!
DIY coir welcome mats are an easy craft that you can make with your Cricut or Silhouette machine! You can make them for every season or as an easy and affordable gift.

What Do You Need to Make Your Own Halloween Doormat?
I prefer to use Freezer Paper to make my doormats. Here are all of the doormat supplies I use:
- Blank Coir Doormat
- Cricut Machine
- Cricut EasyPress 2 or Iron (the large Easy Press works really well!)
- 12×24″ Cutting Mat
- Wide Freezer Paper
- Black Flex Seal Spray
How to Make Your Own Halloween Doormat
If you’re new to using SVG files with your Cricut machine, make sure you read my full post on How to Upload an SVG to Cricut Design Space.
*Note: If you’d like to learn more about making your own doormat, you can make a DIY Fall Doormat. That post includes a more detailed tutorial and step by step pictures.
Upload the SVG file to Cricut Design Space and size to fit your doormat. Use a 12×24″ mat and cut using the custom “Freezer Paper” setting or Paper (-) for the freezer paper. I’ve also had success using the Washi paper setting. Cut with the MIRROR setting turned ON with the wax side of the freezer paper UP.
Lightly heat the stencil design onto the doormat with your EasyPress machine. Use straight pins to attach corners and small pieces, like the middle of letters. You’ll want your stencil as flat as possible.
Spray two coats with Flex Seal pointing the can straight down. Carefully peel off the freezer paper and let dry.
