Make your own Color Changing Cup with a Starbucks plastic cold cup and color changing vinyl! It is a really easy idea and everyone will be begging to know where you got it!

Since last year when Starbucks released their color changing cups, I have been mildly obsessed! It seems silly, but I feel like a little kid when I drink out of one – they are SO fun! I recently grabbed some color changing vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and made myself a color changing Starbucks cup perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Color changing vinyl is the latest vinyl that I HAD to get my hands on. I had been watching it go out of stock repeatedly at Expressions Vinyl, so as soon as I saw it come in stock, I ordered some!

It currently comes in 3 cold-changing colors: pink to red, pink to purple, and white to blue. They also carry one hot-changing color that turns from red to yellow. I used the pink to red and some brand new Hearts SVG files to make myself a Starbucks plastic cup that required NO TEMPLATE!

How to Make Color Changing Starbucks Cup

If you’re new to using SVG files with your Cricut machine, make sure you read my full post on How to Upload an SVG to Cricut Design Space.

This tutorial does not require a template for the whole Starbucks cup, but I do have more FREE Starbucks SVG files on the blog + tons in my shop that you can use – be creative with your color changing designs!

I inserted the Heart SVG Bundle into Cricut Design Space and then selected a few heart designs to scatter all over my cup. I deleted the rest of the designs from the canvas. Then I duplicated the hearts so that I had a total of about 24 hearts to cut out. (This number may be more or less depending on the size of hearts you would like.)

Expressions Vinyl suggests using the “Vinyl +” setting on the Cricut Explore Air 2 Dial, or the Premium Vinyl with the “More” pressure setting with a Cricut Maker. I found that the “Premium Outdoor Vinyl” setting with “More” pressure worked well with my machine.

To transfer the hearts to the cup, you can use your fingers to move the solid hearts. Then use a weeding tool to weed away the extra vinyl and move the other designs with transfer tape.

Scatter all over the cup in whatever design you choose!

I think the cup looks great just with the bright pink heart design (and it matches my Cricut Explore Air 2 haha):

But when you fill the cup with ice cold water (or other beverages), the magic happens. The cup design turns from pink to red!
