Obviously, pineapples are a favorite party decor item around here, but flamingos are a close second! I’ve been meaning to post these party photos for a while, because it’s one of my favorite parties! The whole party is based on flamingo & pineapples, and is inspired by our love of Lilly Pulitzer patterns. It also coordinates with our personalized Flamingo Invitations available to order from our shop, so you can start planning the perfect Flamingo party today! Keep reading for birthday party ideas that you can use for a pineapple birthday party or flamingo birthday party.

One of the reasons I didn’t post the pictures right away was that the weather was HORRIBLE the day of the party, so we had to move mostly everything inside. I planned so long for the party and had to completely re-think the set up the day of the party. Bad weather does not make for my favorite pictures! But I loved her party, of course, and memories we had of it.

One of my favorite features was the large DIY tropical wreath we used as the backdrop for the dessert table. I had the idea for the wreath, and my friend Kathy from The Bloomery put it together for me after I got frustrated with the construction. She did an amazing job (and said I’m not allowed to cut the stems of flowers anymore haha!) It was a combination of artificial peonies, roses, hibiscus, and mini paper balls.

The Lilly Pulitzer themed cake was homemade and was decorated with buttercream to give it some great texture and to match the stationery. The custom cake topper was found on Etsy. The custom runner (and other table linens) was made by Pineapple Lane Crafts on Etsy.

There were two kinds of cupcakes (strawberry and pineapple upside down cake) that were placed in custom cupcake wraps and had toppers from Oriental Trading (Flamingos) and World Market (Pineapples). I absolutely adore those flamingo cupcake toppers!

Pineapples were used for vases or and other containers throughout the party, including as a display container for these awesome pineapple lollipops from Oriental Trading.

French Macarons from a local French bakery were purchased before the party, and I made decorations out of royal icing and an edible image marker to dress them up.

Flamingo sugar cookies were a must and made for an easy display on the flamingo and pineapple dessert table.

One of my absolutely favorite details of Emme’s First Birthday dessert table were these hollowed out lemons that served as containers for lemon custard with pineapple leaves made out of green candy melts:

These were another favorite element: chocolate dipped marshmallows made to look like pineapples with dark chocolate sprinkles, leaves made simple on my paper cutting machine, and custom straw flags.

Pineapple sugar cookies decorated with buttercream gave a whimsical element that matched the other decor, and were way easier to make than royal iced cookies! Thanks Jenny Cookies for the buttercream inspiration!

Here’s another photo of the wreath so y’all can see how awesome it was! There were a ton of flowers on it!

These gorgeous flower displays were also made by The Bloomery, and used a TON of the peonies that bloom in my yard every June. I was in absolute love with them! A wide grosgrain ribbon and 4″ circle dressed up the simple white vases.

Custom napkins were placed on a white charger, then a clear plate with a large decorative circle underneath finished off the place settings.

Despite the weather, the birthday girl had a great day! And of course she had to have a pineapple smash cake 🙂
