Make your own Harry Potter Pencil Bag using a blank cosmetic or pencil bag, sublimation ink and printer, and my FREE Harry Potter inspired sublimation file!
If you have a Harry Potter fan that is heading back to school, they will love this Honeydukes candy inspired pencil bag! I made one for my kids and then decided I needed one for my colored pencils as well. It is adorable and is sitting proudly on my desk with my Harry Potter books sublimation mug. It would even make a cute back to school teacher gift!

What You Need to Make a DIY Pencil Bag with Sublimation
- Epson EcoTank Printer
- HiiPoo Sublimation Ink (get an extra coupon when using my link!)
- Blank Polyester Cosmetic or Pencil Bag (I sized this image for the Cricut brand)
- Sublimation Paper
- Cricut EasyPress or Heat Press
- EasyPress Mat – I used a large mat and a small mat for inside the bag
- White Cardstock
- Lint Roller
- Butcher Paper
If you are just getting into sublimation, keep in mind that you can’t use a regular printer to make sublimation transfers. You will need a sublimation printer – and you can actually CONVERT an inkjet printer! See how I converted an Epson printer for sublimation ink. It’s really easy and the post has a video, too!

The Harry Potter pencil bag image is sized to fit the larger of the Cricut cosmetic bags (it holds the most pencils!) and is 9.6″ wide x 7.5″ tall. You can resize the image to fit whatever bag you’d like!
One detail that I love about this sublimation design is that the edges of the design look “worn” so it really helps the design work with the blank pencil bag. It doesn’t have “crisp” edges that make it look homemade or less professional. I love that it looks like you could have bought it at the store!
How to Make a Sublimation Harry Potter Pencil Bag
If you don’t have a lot of experience with sublimation, definitely check out all of my sublimation posts. I have detailed tutorials and information about a variety of sublimation projects, including Cricut Infusible Ink!
You DO NOT need a Cricut to make this Pencil Bag. I chose Cricut cosmetic bags to sublimate on because they are easy to find and are quite affordable! However, any polyester pencil bag or cosmetic bag will work with this project.
Download the FREE Harry Potter sublimation image (.jpg file) in the gray box at the end of the post. Open it on your computer in the program of your choice. Adobe Photoshop is best for color conversion, but you can use any program on your computer. Just know that color results may vary and you should print a couple of tests before applying it to your pencil bag.
Make sure that the image is sized to fit your bag, and that you MIRROR the image. You will press the image design side down onto your bag.
Print the design. If you are using Photoshop or a similar program, make sure that you allow Photoshop to manage your colors, NOT the printer.
Preheat your EasyPress or heat press to 400 degrees F. Use a lint roller to remove any lint and debris from your pencil bag. Place a large heating mat on your work surface and build your “stack” for heating. From the bottom to the top:
- Heating Mat
- White Cardstock
- Pencil Bag with Small Heating Mat and White Cardstock INSIDE
- Harry Potter Honeydukes Sublimation Design FACE DOWN
- Butcher Paper
Heat (without moving) for 60 seconds. Let cool slightly and lift to reveal your pencil bag!
