Every year, we traditionally get each of our kids Advent Calendars. This year, I was shopping in Target and saw “12 Days of Socks” calendars, which I thought were a really cute idea, because my kids (my older kids in particular) love Christmas socks! However, my Target (and Target.com and all physical Targets near anyone I know across the country) were sold out of the set that would fit my oldest daughter. So, I decided to use my Cricut Maker and make a set of boxes that could function as a Christmas Countdown for the 12 Days of Christmas Socks.

Materials needed to create this project:

-Cricut Maker or other Cricut cutting machine (SHOP CRICUT MACHINES HERE)
-Cardstock (24 sheets of 12 designs)
-Hot glue gun & glue sticks

-12 pairs of socks (we got most of ours at the Target Dollar Spot–they always have great $1 socks!)

I used a gift box image in Cricut Design Space that is free with Cricut Access, and sized it so it would fit a pair of rolled socks (image free with CRICUT ACCESS):

The boxes will cut on 2 mats after you click “Make It”. Proceed to cut all 12 boxes, making sure that you cut both mat designs for each, so the boxes will fit together properly.

Start assembling the boxes. I found that hot glue, because it dries quickly, works the best.

I chose to add numbers 1-12 on the boxes, which can be cut easily by creating a design space canvas with the numbers in the font of your choice. Just make sure to “weld” and “attach” the numbers in Design Space so that the double digit numbers won’t separate when they move them to the cutting mat.

Roll your socks and place in each box, and you’re done! It takes a while to assemble all of the boxes, but they are sturdy and could be used again! Starting December 13th, you can have your child open one box each day until Christmas and wear a new pair of Christmas socks.

  1. Thank you, especially for sharing the DS file. I knew I couldn’t be the only person with this idea (I got my socks as packs, not Christmas, but Disney ones, even got a 6 pk of Mickey themed ones for just over $2!)!. I’d like a box to keep all the boxes in too, so now to look for or figure that out.

Right?! That’s on my list for sure. And maybe to make one that holds wine. LOL! Merry Christmas!
