Fall is the best time of year–with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas-prep all in one season, we are constantly crafting and designing for customers (and ourselves!)

Today we are sharing a DIY Halloween Trick-or-Treat tote for Craft Lightning that you can make in just 15 quick minutes (Check out all of the awesome crafts in this round of Craft Lightning at the end of the post). Of course, it doesn’t look like it was made in 15 minutes! How can you make such an awesome Halloween tote in such a short amount of time? By using two of our favorite Cricut products–the Cricut Maker and the Cricut Brightpad!

We designed this Halloween graphic using a cobweb/bat graphic found in Cricut Design Space, and it’s available on Cricut Access! (If you don’t have Cricut Access, you’re missing out! THOUSANDS of free designs to make on your Cricut, 10% off purchases in the Cricut online store, and more!) GET CRICUT ACCESS HERE.
We added the “Trick or Treat” text on top of the graphic, and saved the file so you don’t have to do the work! CLICK HERE to open the design in Cricut Design Space.

Size your design to fit the size of your tote (for ours, it was as big as would fit on a 12×12″ Cricut Mat). Then click “Make It” at the top right hand corner of your screen, and Design Space does the rest of the tricky work for you! It separates the cobweb graphic from the text so that you can cut each graphic set our on separate materials (in our case we used White Cricut Iron-On and Gold Foil Cricut Iron-On Vinyl.) MAKE SURE you click the little “Mirror” slider anytime you are using Iron-On Vinyl. If you don’t, you’ll have a backwards design when you iron it on!

In this picture, the first mat has been cut, and the Maker is prompting me to cut the second mat. Because I used Gold Foil Iron-On Vinyl, I had to make sure to change my material setting for the second mat. Also, Design Space gives you a little reminder message to turn on “Mirror.”

If you have your mats prepped and ready to go, the Maker cuts them out in just a few minutes!

Here is my favorite part about this project, and what makes this DIY only 15 minutes–the Cricut BrightPad! An ingenious product recently released by Cricut, it makes the tiresome and usually lengthy process of weeding out the vinyl you don’t need SO fast, because you can see all of the cut lines! Normally this cobweb design would take close to 15 minutes to just weed! I peeled off the outer edge vinyl that I didn’t need for the design, and then taped the vinyl cobweb to the BrightPad using a couple of pieces of scotch tape on the edges. If you look really close at the picture, you can see the cut lines shining through the vinyl. Don’t worry, it’s 10 times more visible in person!

I timed myself (and I’m not the fastest weeder to begin with), and getting all of the extra vinyl out only took between 3-4 minutes! Amazing!

You’ll follow the same procedure for the foil “Trick or Treat,” but it is a much simpler design so it only takes a few seconds.

Next, you need to head to your preheated iron, heat press, or Cricut Easy Press and iron on the vinyl–first the white cobweb graphic, then the “Trick or Treat” on top. Follow the instructions that apply to the heating element you are using (obviously a regular iron requires a few more minutes than the others.)

After about 15 brief minutes of work time, you’re done! It’s Craft Lightning!
