Can you believe Mardi Gras is right around the corner? Where has February gone?

The party is already going on in full force in New Orleans, and one thing the people down there are drinking for brunch (or any time of the day, really) is a traditional Milk Punch Cocktail. I am so excited for this long weekend so we can make a big batch of Milk Punch and dream of Bourbon Street.

What is New Orleans Milk Punch?

Never had Milk Punch? It’s basically milk, liquor (bourbon, usually), vanilla, and sugar. Kind of like Egg Nog, but without all of the thickness and spice if you happen to not like Egg Nog. I tasted my first Milk Punch in New Orleans a few years ago, and trust me, it’s worth a taste. A Milk Punch recipe makes an appearance on my Mardi Gras menu every year! I am always looking for new recipes and twists come Mardi Gras time.

I have a few favorites, plus I’ve even made my own EASY version! Keep reading for all of the Mardi Gras (and brunch worthy!) recipes.

Smitten Kitchen seems to have the same obsession I do with milk punch. It’s a big batch, but we’re okay with that. This version uses bourbon (yes, please. always more bourbon) and is frozen until it’s slushy. YUM.

If you’ve ever been to New Orleans, you’ll know that Brennan’s is a staple restaurant brand. I think that’s where I first tried it (Don’t judge. There were a lot of drinks that weekend.) This traditional recipe uses brandy and is from New Orleans Online (photo from Saveur).

From Southern Living, I love the idea of a coffee-flavored Milk Punch! A non-traditional twist that I can’t wait to try out!

And last but certainly not least, here’s a simple traditional Milk Punch cocktail recipe also from Southern Living that I just love!

We hope you’ll join us in making a version of Mardi Gras Milk Punch to try! As they say in New Orleans, let the good times roll!
